A Cozy Autumn Wedding at The Tillerman in Vermont
There’s something about an autumn wedding that just feels different. Maybe it’s the softer light, the way the trees turn into these blazing gold canopies, or how everything seems to slow down just a bit. This wedding at The Tillerman had all of that and then some.
From the start, D + L wanted something intimate. Not small necessarily, but warm. The kind of celebration where you feel like you’re at a dinner party with your favorite people rather than a big production. Willow Hill Design Co. took that vision and ran with it, creating a day that felt thoughtful in every detail without being fussy.
Woodland Ceremony Among the Trees
The ceremony took place in a sun-dappled clearing among the trees. A simple birch arch covered in autumn blooms (courtesy of Narrow Path) framed the couple as they exchanged vows. The light filtering through the leaves did most of the decorating. Guests sat on wooden chairs in the grass, close enough to hear every word, every laugh, every moment of emotion.
After they kissed and walked back down the aisle together, there was this palpable shift. The formal part was done. Now it was time to eat, drink, and be together.
Farm-to-Table Dining at The Tillerman
The Tillerman is known for its farm-to-table approach, and they didn’t disappoint. Dinner felt like the main event, which honestly was exactly right for this couple. Long wooden tables were set under a tent, dressed with rich florals in shades of coral, burgundy, and gold. Specialty linens from BBJ Tavola added texture. Mismatched goblets and tall candles made everything feel collected over time rather than bought all at once.
The food was the real star, though. Course after course of seasonal, locally sourced dishes that had people lingering at the table long after they’d finished eating. The whole vibe was relaxed but elevated. Like someone took the best dinner party you’ve ever been to and turned it into a wedding reception.
Vermont Wedding Reception in a Rustic Barn
As the sun set, the barn came alive. String lights and paper lanterns cast this warm glow over everything. Disco Phantom kept the energy going, and at one point the couple was hoisted up on chairs during the hora, napkins waving, everyone around them singing and clapping. Pure joy.
Personal Touches and Autumn Wedding Details
There were little moments tucked into the bigger picture. A quilted banner that read “Always & Evermore.” Pink paper crowns at the reception. A simple white cake topped with wild autumn flowers. Programs and pink shawls laid out for guests. A fire pit crackling with sparks. The kind of details that make a day feel personal without trying too hard.
Creating an Intimate Wedding Experience
Looking back through these photos, what stands out most isn’t any one detail. It’s the feeling. The golden light. The laughter. The way people were fully present, fully there with this couple on one of the most important days of their lives.
That’s what a good wedding does. It lets you forget about everything else for a little while and just be together. This one did that beautifully.
