August and September carry that restless, back-to- August and September carry that restless, back-to-school pull, the sense that summer is slipping away even as it insists on staying. Everything feels a little frenetic, a little wistful, and weddings in this window feel like a celebration that knows exactly how precious these last warm days are. Mornings arrive with dew still clinging to the grass and just enough chill to justify a sweater and a hot cup of coffee. By midday the heat creeps back in, insistent as ever, and by evening it settles into a warm golden haze, the water still warm enough for a quick dip, the air just brisk enough to prick your arms with goosebumps. One of those evenings in Vermont, a few summers back.
