There’s something almost otherworldly about a Deering Estate wedding. The moment you step onto the grounds in Palmetto Bay, you’re transported. The historic stone house sits against Biscayne Bay like it’s been waiting there for centuries, and the light that bounces off the water during golden hour? Absolutely unmatched.

As a photographer, Vizcaya is both a gift and a challenge. A gift because everywhere you point your camera, there’s something stunning. The formal gardens with their sculptures and fountains, the ornate interior rooms with their detailed ceilings and period furnishings, the waterfront views. The challenge? Choosing what to focus on when everything is so visually rich.
What I’ve learned shooting Vizcaya weddings is to let the architecture guide us, not compete with it. The venue does a lot of heavy lifting, so I focus on capturing genuine moments against these incredible backgrounds. A quiet glance between partners in the Secret Garden, laughter echoing through the halls, the bride’s dress trailing down the grand staircase. What I appreciate most is how the venue can shift in feeling depending on where you are: romantic and intimate by the Cloister pool, grand and sweeping on the beach, classic and refined in the ballrooms.
